You Can't Be A Politician With Purpose & Vision Without Being A Registered Voter - Kabilla To NDC

Acting General Secretary of the Convention People's Party (CPP), James Kwabena Bomfeh has waded into discussions about some members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) participating in the pilot voters' registration exercise by the Electoral Commission (EC).

The registration exercise is slated to commence in the middle of June this year but the EC piloted it on Tuesday, June 2, 2020 to ensure all goes on well on the main day.

The exercise saw in attendance members from both the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the NDC.

Many Ghanaians were stunned to find out the NDC participated in the exercise when they are strongly against the compilation of a new voters' register by the EC with some critics lambasting the party for failing to stand by their principles.

Although the critics are of a strong view that the NDC should have avoided the pilot exercise to establish their integrity and position on the registration exercise, James Kwabena Bomfeh popularly called Kabilla believes the NDC cannot abstain from the exercise.

To him, the opposition party may go against the EC for all they like but eventually, they will have to participate in the impending exercise because that is the only way they can be certifiable for a political position.

Speaking to host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo', Kabilla cited that for the party's flagbearer or any member who is nursing a political ambition to be qualified to contest a political seat, the person must first be a registered voter.

This invariably means the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has no choice but to take part in the exercise they are opposed to if only they want to vote and be voted for in the December polls.

"If you can contest a Parliamentary seat, you have to be a voter in your constituency. It is clear on the face of the law . . . You have to also be a registered voter to be a Minister . . . So, the registration of names is not at anybody's discretion to choose to register or not. Any person can choose to register or not but if you are a politician like me and has a purpose and vision that you can become a Parliamentarian, Minister or President, for you, it is not an option," he said.
