Existing Voters' Register Is Illegal - Richard Ahiagba

Executive Director for Danquah Institute (DI), Richard Ahiagbah says members of the NDC and other stakeholders who claim to be against the compilation of the new voters' register are not in for a free and fair 2020 general elections because the current register cannot befit their claimed request.

According to him the existing voters' register which will soon be changed is an illegal document since the then Electoral Commission refused to expunge some names from the register as directed by the Supreme Court.

Ghanaians who used birth certificate as a requirement to acquire their voter ID cards during the compilation of the register in 2012 are to be removed.

In further explanation, he affirmed that the current voters' register has since its compilation not been fit for purpose but the government then in power together with the EC officials have intentionally worked with it till date.

Speaking on UTV's 'Adekye Nsroma' discussion programme, Mr. Ahiagbah confessed members of the ruling government will soon petition Otumfuo Osei Tutu ll just like ASEPA and IMANI did to outline their reasons for supporting EC to compile a new voters' register.

The NPP communicator indicated that members of the current government will not be fair to Ghanaians should they use the existing voters' register to vote, therefore "it will not happen that the current voters' register will be used by EC".
