In the Ghanaian music industry, artistes are judged by the hit songs they have; without hit songs, an artiste is quickly forgotten or retired and that has influenced many acts whose sole aim is to release as many bangers as they can.
However, that is not a line that Highlife artiste Kwaisey Pee has toed in his career, and he says he doesn’t intend to do now. According to him, he stands for good music and will not follow trends just for hit songs.

“I don’t chase after hit songs but I believe in taking my time to work on my music to stay on the minds of people for a long time. I don’t actually mind if my songs are not hits anymore so far as I am doing good music.

"If it is only a few people who appreciate the good music I do, that is fine by me,” he told Graphic Showbiz in an interview recently.

According to the Mehia Odo hitmaker, the songs he has done in the past are evidence of how he wants his music to be evergreen and enjoyed always.
“My songs will always be evergreen because I took time to work on them and that is what I want to be remembered for. I don’t want to release a hit song today and in the next six months you cannot even listen to it, that is not me,” he said.

Kwaisey Pee challenged young artistes not to focus only on doing hit songs, enjoy the fame and be irrelevant in a few months.

“Some of the young ones are doing very well but most of them are just focusing on the hits and not really paying attention to what goes into the music,” he stated.

The perception has been that today’s artistes are making much more money than the veterans but Kwaisey Pee doesn’t buy into that, saying music isn’t paying now. According to him, music used to pay during the days of Amakye Dede, Kojo Antwi and Daddy Lumba but not anymore.

“If you are not an A-list artiste like Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy or Sarkodie then forget about making any good money from music. The young musicians now record songs and put it on the internet for people to download for free. I can tell you they don’t make that much money,” he revealed.

Kwaisey Pee has been around for a decade and he is known for songs like Krokro Me, Brebre and Osugyani. He is currently promoting his latest song, Nonfa, featuring Medikal.
