Why 'Kill' A Person Because Of Elections? - Pratt Scolds NPP Curse Invokers

Seasoned journalist, Kwesi Pratt has scolded delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who invoked curses on the party's leadership on suspicion that some parliamentary aspirants have been unfairly disqualified from the primaries.

According to these delegates, the grounds for the disqualification of some of these aspirants were not legitimate but a move by the NPP national executives to ensure incumbent Members of Parliament, in particular, go unopposed.

Some youth of the party in the Offinso South constituency slaughtered a ram in River Offin and performed rituals invoking the river god after alleging that the National Vetting Committee is scheming to have incumbent MP, Ben Abdallah Banda, go unopposed.

A group in the party also invoked curses on some national executives during a protest at Nabewam against the 2nd National Vice Chairman, Fredrick Freduah Antoh.

The protest was held after the disqualication of their preferred parliamentary aspirant, Francis Owusu -Akyaw ahead of the party’s June, 20 parliamentary primaries.

The NPP National Executive Committee has suspended the delegates and polling station executives involved in the invocation of the curses.

Addressing the issue on 'Kokrokoo' on Peace FM, Kwesi Pratt rebuked the culture where party members and supporters resort to curses when they disagree on an issue or suspect foul play particularly during elections.

He wondered why people would want to ''kill'' all in the name of elections.

“Why should we kill somebody's father? Just because of a little voting for some person to go to Parliament, so someone's father and family should be killed; this is harsh,” he stated emphatically, thereby calling on party members and supporters to “do things which will bring peace”.
