The Most Reverend Professor Emmanuel Asante, a former Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana (MCG), has said it is important that the Ministers focused on issues affecting the development of humanity.

They should contextualize their messages and programmes to reflect the current trends in the society, encompassing all fields of human endeavor - for this is the reason for their divine calling.

“We cannot be Ministers without talking about today’s pressing needs such as the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic and growing human insecurity,” Most Rev. Prof. Asante noted.

Addressing newly-commissioned Ministers of the Church at separate ceremonies in Kumasi, he observed that Christianity had throughout the ages been responsive to the needs of mankind.

Therefore, the Ministers had an obligation to apply the word of God in a manner that brings hope to the distressed and troubled in society.

A total of 21 qualified Ministers of the Church were commissioned for a three-year probation period and would be posted to various stations across the country to begin their service.

Most Rev. Prof. Asante drew their attention to the fact that at this stage in their ministry life “they have no other programme except God’s own work.”

“You have been called into ministry for a particular reason. Be diligent to the Holy Scriptures and uphold the constitution and standing orders of the MCG,” he cautioned.
