Okaikwei North MP Condemns Moneycracy In Ghana Politics

Member of Parliament for Okaikwei North, Issah Fuseini has kicked against the culture of vote buying in Ghana's politics.

According to Hon. Fuseini, there is the need for leaders in the country to look at accepted ways to deal with this political trend because it has bad implications on the country's governance system.

He was addressing the New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries which ended on Saturday, June 20.

The primaries was characterized by surprises as some incumbent Members of Parliament lost their seats to new aspirants in the NPP.

There were also reports that some aspirants had to dish out monies and other items to induce the party delegates to vote for them.

In view of this subculture in politics, Hon. Issah Fuseini explained on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' that money in politics is not peculiar to Ghana as other democratically advanced countries are equally grappling with it.

"Money in politics is not unique to Ghana. The world over, every country practicing democracy; they're grappling with it," he said.

However, he believes it's not an acceptable practice for any person to buy the votes from electorates in order to assume a political position and, to him, this problem can only be resolved using a holistic approach and seeing it as a national issue not just a problem confronting political parties.
