Three Robbers Jailed 150 Years

Three men between the ages of 19 and 26 had been sentenced to 50 years each in hard labour by a Kumasi Circuit Court for robbing a taxi driver of his Opel taxi cab. All the convicts, John Quaison, alias Kwaku Agyei, a 19-year old loading boy, Frank Osei Wusu, 20, a drivers mate and Kwabena Adu Gyamfi, alias Kokromoti, 26, driver pleaded not guilty to the charge of conspiracy and robbery. Police Inspector Philip Yao Bebli prosecuting told the Court presided over by Mr Justice Emmanuel Amoh-Yartey that the complainant, Kwasi Owusu is a driver whilst the convicts are friends. He said on May 10, 2011, at about 00:30 hours, Owusu, driving the car with registration number AS1290 Y, was hired by the three when he got to Abrepo-Junction to send them to Amakom, near the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. On reaching a spot close to the Stadium, Quaison, who was seated behind the complainant, pulled a knife, and started struggling with him (Owusu) to get him out of the car. Prosecution said for fear of his life the complainant gave in after receiving a deep cut on the left fourth finger and Gyamfi took control of the steering wheel after they had pushed him out of the car. Gyamfi then pulled a locally manufactured pistol and threatened to shoot Owusu if he dared raised an alarm, and they sped-off. The complainant managed to report the case to the Asokwa Police and during investigating they had a call from their colleagues in Kwahu-Mpraeso in the Eastern Region that the three had been arrested with the vehicle. After further police investigations, the three were processed and put before the court.
