Gwiraman Senior High School Cannot Be Blamed For Death Of A Final Year Student - GES

Head of Public Relations Unit of the Ghana Education Service, Cassandra Twum-Ampofo has debunked news report by 3news.com that the unfortunate death of a 21-year-old final year student of Gwiraman SHS, Nathaniel Yankey was as a result of mishandling of the student on campus.

In a press release, management of Ghana Education Service (GES) has indicated that Gwiraman Senior High School in the Western Region is an E-Block Community Day School, thus, some parents including the parents of the deceased have hired their own private hostel for their wards where they reside and commute to and from school on daily basis.

The statement from management read that the hostels are run by private individuals and not by the school authorities and for that matter the deceased, master Nathaniel Yankey left the hostel to his parents’ house when he felt unwell last Friday and the school was notified.

“Management of Gwiraman SHS called today Wednesday 15th July 2020 to check on him and was told he had passed on this morning. Management of GES wishes to indicate that the unfortunate death of one of our students was not the mishandling of a student on campus as the 3news.com story alleges,” the statement read.
