China's GDP has seen a 3.2 per cent year-on-year increase in the second quarter, signalling that the nation may have avoided a full-on economic recession caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The country's economy bounced back to growth between April and June after a deep slump at the start of the year.

But unexpected weakness in domestic consumption underscored the need for more policy support to bolster the recovery after the shock of the COVID-19 crisis.
