Stop Chasing BET & Grammy Awards - Socrates Sarfo Tells Ghanaian Artistes

Movie Producer, Socrates Sarfo says artistes in the country should stop counting their music fortunes on acquiring BET or Grammy awards.

The BET Awards is an American award programme by the Black Entertainment Television (BET) network to celebrate African Americans and extended over to Africans in entertainment and other fields.

Grammy Award or the Grammy is also an award scheme to recognize achievements in the music industry.

Over the years, musicians like Sarkodie, Wizkid, Davido and a host of others have won BET awards.

However, this year's BET awards which came off on Sunday, June 28, 2020 had no Ghanaian artiste in the list of nominees or awardees.

This has become a topical issue as some people have blamed the absence of Ghanaian artiste(s) nominees on laziness or lack of ability to churn out good music.

Speaking on Peace FM's 'Entertainment Review', Socrates Sarfo pointed out that winning a BET or Grammy award is not a yardstick for performance or success in the music industry, and therefore wondered why Ghanaian musicians keep betting their hopes on it.

He advised musicians to stop chasing BET and Grammys and rather focus on building connections that will benefit their music careers.

"Any smart businessman wil build a base in his home first before he thinks about outsiders. If you're a farmer, you grow what you can sell within your locality before you think of selling. I insist that any smart businessman, this is how he will think but we are always looking at outside. That BET has not awarded me and Grammys and so forth; hello, for what? Do you know artiste who haven't won BET and Grammys but their works accepted all over the world? BET and Grammys, they're not the yardstick for perfection or being the best. No! Your works can be accepted if you have the right channels to enter any market. That is what you should crave for. Ghanaian artistes, stop chasing BET and Grammys," he asserted.
