Vice Chancellor To Transform UCC Into A World Class Entrepreneurial University

Newly appointed Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Prof. Nyarko Boampong says he will transform the University into a world class entrepreneurial educational institution.

He noted his vision for the UCC is to reposition the University as a global hub of creative thinkers offering demand driven programs integrated with practical entrepreneurial courses.

According to him, a stimulus fund for science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM) and entrepreneurship education will be created under his leadership

Speaking at the 12th investiture of Vice Chancellor and Registrar of the University of Cape Coast, Prof. Boampong explained that the School of Business Centre will be developed and resourced to become the University’s wide entrepreneurial centre which would be called UCC Design Thinking and Business Development Centre.

He stressed the centre will “collaborate with the Ministry of Business Development, financial institutions and UCC Enterprise to reinforce practical entrepreneurship and nurture the talents of students and assist them to create and manage their  businesses or possibly partner the University to run joint ventures”. 

Outlining his five strategies step in his four year term as Vice Chancellor, he indicated “there will be an increased intake of students and emphasize academic distinctiveness, generate additional revenue and maintain fiscal discipline, enhance visibility and promote internationalization, and create organizational culture and improve effectiveness and efficiency of governance”.

The Minister in charge of Tertiary Education, Prof. Kwesi Yankah also noted that with the numerous challenges facing education in Africa, there is the need for the right content in education, appropriate infrastructure, the right human resource and also right leadership.

He stated that “the farsightedness agenda has in birth...mechanism that ensures continuous supply of self renewal in the midst of turbulence”.

Council Chairman of the University of Cape Coast, Dr. Sam Jonah added that “the whole world is in crisis and it is time to call for a bold and innovative leadership. A leadership that embodies empathy, flexibility and the ability to keep the team engaged and motivated”.

“Today all universities across the globe have now turned to online virtual teaching and learning due to this pandemic.

"Giving the safety protocols being encouraged to stop the spread of the pandemic, online teaching and learning would become the new norm for all tertiary education situations around the continent."
