Akufo-Addo Govt Deliberately Fuelling Disunity - Mahama Jabs

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been accused of deliberately propelling and fuelling disunity in the country by his main contender in the 2020 general election, former President John Dramani Mahama.

According to the NDC Flagbearer, he has lived long enough to see that the country has never witnessed such a disunited country as can be seen under leadership of Akufo-Addo as every in the past has made an effort to bring the country together as one people in their diversity.

I have lived in this country, I was born 61 years ago and so I lived in this country and never before have I witnessed a situation where we have become so disunited; we are very diverse people, culturally and linguistically but in all governments I have seen, every leadership has made an effort to bring us together as one people in our diversity”, he asserted.

Speaking in an interview with Woezor TV, former President John Mahama called it an unfortunate situation as there are signs of cracks in the unity and oneness of the nation under the watch of President Akufo-Addo.

Unfortunately, I see signs of cracks in the unity and oneness of our nation and it looks like this current administration deliberately propelling and fuelling that. Utterances by some of the leading members of ruling party have been most unfortunate. A whole member of parliament says that ‘you know those people from that part, they are not from that part, they are Togolese’; how can you say a thing like that?

He stressed that there was a deliberate attempt in the course of the voter registration exercise by leading members of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to question people’s citizen and identity without complying to the EC’s provided channel.

The fact is that even in the exercise, deliberate attempt has been made to question people’s citizen and identity. I don’t say we shouldn’t do that if enough grounds to do so and the EC provided a channel for doing that by filling a challenge form for review and you have to provide a proof that the person you are challenging is not of a Ghanaian nationality but people sidestep that and physically tried to prevent people from registering, even people who have the Ghana Card were prevented from the registration”.

"There can be nothing greater in value to us than the peace of our nation. Other countries have not been as fortunate but the way things are going with the use of vigilantes, thugs, intimidation and harassment, we are on a slippery slope towards chaos and we need to arrest that", he cautioned.
