Tragedy hit the Rapid Deployment Force (RDF) of the Bono Regional Police Command when a member of the team, Corporal Rexford Amoako, was allegedly shot and killed accidentally by one of his colleagues.
According to the police, the RDF was deployed from Sunyani last Monday for highway patrol duties within Dormaa.

However, during the operation, a member of the team allegedly fired his gun accidentally which killed Corporal Amoako in the Diabaa Forest in the Dormaa West District.

The Bono Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Police Service, Chief Inspector Augustine Kingsley Oppong, confirmed the incident to the Daily Graphic.

He said investigation had begun to ascertain the actual cause of the tragic incident.

"An investigation has begun to establish what actually took place and further developments shall be communicated to the public," Chief Inspector Oppong stated.

Suspects rearrested

Meanwhile, eight suspects arrested for their involvement in the clash between supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Nkrankwanta in the Dormaa West District last Saturday were today put before a Sunyani Circuit Court.

They are Ali Musah, alias Buge; Lonfintey Sansah, Mohammed Osman, alias Mba, and Kwasi Sam.

The rest are Oppong Johnson, Abubakar Sulemana, Fuseini Mohammed and Musah Sule.

While Musah was charged with an attempt to commit murder contrary to Section 48 of the Criminal Act, 1960 (Act 29), the others were charged with causing unlawful damage.

Discharge, rearrest

The clash between the supporters of the two political parties resulted in the death of one person while two others were injured.

The court, presided over by Justice Sylvester Nii Okine Ablorh, however, discharged the suspects for lack of jurisdiction.

Justice Ablorh explained that since one of the charges bordered on attempted murder, the prosecution should have separated the charges on different charge sheets and sent the attempted murder charge to the district court for committal.

However, soon after their discharge, the police rearrested them.
