Comparative Analysis Of 2020 & 2016 Registers

The Electoral Commission has registered over 16 million eligible Ghanaians onto the new voters' register and this is a massive leap over records in the past.

Doing a comparative analysis of the 2020 and 2016 registers, it's been established that this year's registrants for a voter ID card saw a 7.4 percent increase in the number of people who turned up at the various registration centers in all 10 original Regions of Ghana.

A breakdown by the EC indicated that in the Greater Accra Region, 3,509,805 people registered their names this year as against 3,063,990 registrants in 2016.

The Ashanti, Brong Ahafo and Eastern Regions recorded 3,013,856, 1,556,250 and 1,628,180 respectively in 2020 against 2,872,619, 1,406,934 and 1,605,943 in the order given.

Regions like the Western, Central, Volta, Northern, Upper East and West also recorded 7,255,215 in total in the year 2020 and in 2016, the register had 5,357,043 names.

In 2016, all the ten regions recorded a total of 15,712,505 names, a difference of 1,205,801 comparing it to this year's list of registrants.

This shows that comparatively many Ghanaians partook in the registration exercise this year.
