Herbalists have been urged to register and renew their licenses to ensure lawful operations of their businesses and build confidence in their patrons.
Traditional Doctor Anthony Normeshie, Former National President of GAFRAM, asserted that when herbal centres are duly registered, the practitioners’ careers would be respected on the local and international markets and also boost their businesses.
Dr. Normashei made the assertion when interacting with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at his multi-purpose herbal centre “Health For All Herbal Centre” at Owuram in the West Akim Municipality of the Eastern Region.
Dr. Normeshie noted that standards were critical and the basis of it was to promote the health and safety of clients, as well as preserve the environment.
He explained that each herbal and shrine centre in the country was to register with the Registrar General’s Department for a certificate in respect of “Incorporation and Commencement of Business”.
The Herbal Practitioner explained further that one had to become a member of the Traditional Medicine Practice Council (TMPC) under the Ministry of Health (MoH) and accordingly, acquire a TMPC license to operate.
He mentioned other certifications to include those from the Food and Drugs Authority and the Ghana Standards Authority, adding that, since the medicine practitioners’ operations was about human lives there should be no space for incompetence.
Dr. Normeshie stressed that their work was prone to several inspections and enforcement exercise by Statutory Regulatory Agencies under the MoH, which was mandated to overlook the affairs of wellness centres, he also appealed to the GNA and other journalists to periodically call at the centres to ascertain the truth of their operations.
He advised those who have not duly registered their centres, but operating to do so.
