FIFA expects to make the same profit as predicted in its four-year budget covering 2019-2022 despite a reduction in revenue due to the coronavirus, the world football governing body said Wednesday.

The anticipated loss for 2020 has grown from 624 million dollars to 794 million dollars, before tax, with changes to the international match calendar costing some 200 million dollars income.

At the same time FIFA has pledged financial support for its members during the coronavirus crisis.

But in the medium term FIFA believes the four-year budget will still return the predicted profit of 100 million dollars. Income is largely dependant on the men's World Cup - held late 2022 in Qatar - which is expected to make over 1.6 billion dollars.

The reworked budget must be approved by the FIFA congress on September 18. All 211 member nations will gather online and could approve the use of video rather than personal meetings in the future.
