'Nonsensical' Mornah And Mahama Factions 'Turf War' Has Derailed PNC - Atik Goes Berserk

Former Acting General Secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Atik Mohammed has blamed the woes and retrogression of the party on the “needless” turf war going on between the party’s National Chairman, Bernard Mornah and the leader, Dr. Edward Mahama, now Ambassador-at-large in Akufo-Addo's government.

According to him, the PNC was doing so well after Dr. Hilla Limann handed over the party to Dr. Edward Mahama.

He said thay had a respectable representation in Parliament; thus, the PNC was among the best three surviving political parties that begun the fourth republican democracy until in recent times, it started taking the back seat.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, Atik Mohammed said it was sad to see the People’s National Convention (PNC) that was once running the affairs of the country now relegated to the background as it is no longer part of the surviving political parties.

He recollected that the PNC in 1996 started with only the Bimbilla seat and in 2000 their representation in Parliament increased to a point where the party had 5 seats in Parliament, but the attitudes of some executives in the party today have made them lost all their seats in the House.

“At a point, we had 5 seats in Parliament but as we speak today PNC has no seat in parliament, and do you know why? It is the attitude of some people in the party, and the attitude is not about territory control, but it is about test control; they want people to know who is the most powerful person in the PNC,” he accused.

He stressed that the bad attitude exhibited by some of the leaders of the party has weakened the PNC to a point where their Presidential Candidate cannot even get 100,000 votes in elections in the country.

He indicated that the Bernard Mornah and Dr. Edward Mahama factions have waded into the camp of the party, tearing apart the big picture to see the party progress; thus, the bickering to have supremacy over the party has worked against the strength of the party.

“As we speak, they say that the factions in the party are the Mornah faction and Mahama faction. We can only have an entity like PNC in the state it finds itself now and instead of you to focus on the bigger picture as to how to make the party progress, it is about who is in control and who has faction in the party. It is this nonsense in the party that has reduced the party to this level,” he slammed.

“Since I became the General Secretary of the party for the last 4 years, this attitude has worked against the progress of the party. Mahama has his faction in the party and these are real things; it is not hearsay because I have experienced it and so I know what I am saying. When we go for the NEC meeting, Mahama has his Regional Chairmen that he controls and Bernard Mornah has the people that he controls. People did not come to NEC meeting with the view to making decisions that will help the party and that has caused the party to despair,” he mentioned.
