PNC Likely To Go Into 2020 Election Without A Presidential Candidate - Atik Mohammed

Former General Secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Atik Mohammed says the confusion that has rocked his party is likely to lead them into the 2020 general election ‘war’ front without a Presidential Candidate.

He explained that the attitude of the 'illegal' executives still at post working against the efforts of the Council of Elders to organize the party’s Congress will make it difficult for the party to take part in the Presidential Race in the 2020 election as it is not certain when the Congress will be organized.

In an interview with Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, Atik Mohammed said that the 'turf war' between the PNC  National Chairman and Dr. Edward Mahama is likely to result in the party not taking part in the Presidential election.

“If they don’t take care, there are two likely outcomes I am looking at; PNC will go into 2020 election without a Flagbearer or they will eventually go and do the election but the person will be unable to file because there is no unity in the party . . . "

“The nomination will be opened on the 5th of October and close on the 9th, with this attitude, can you imagine what will happen. There are two likely scenarios that if they don take care, it will happen,” he said.

To him, the party executives should be concerned with making sure that the party takes part in the upcoming general elections rather than seeking their individual interests to have total control of the party.

He added that the gross display of individual interest in the party has made some of them distance themselves from any position in the party; indicating the fact that everyone in the PNC is moving the party in a different direction at the same time, creating confusion in the party.

He, however, charged the members of the PNC to rise up to protect the interest of the party by telling the naysayers to stop the ‘nonsense’ in the party.
