The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, (PCG) Rt. Rev Prof. Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante, has called on Ghanaians to demonstrate their love and compassion towards one another to ensure national unity.
The Moderator said for the nation to develop, there was the need for Ghanaians to love each other, unite and fight for a common goal.
Rt. Rev. Prof. Mante made the call in a sermon at a church service to dedicate new chapel for the Prince of Peace Congregation at Adweso-Abogri near Koforidua in the Eastern Region on Sunday.
Preaching on the theme; “Love one another” the Moderator said Christ stood for peace, unity and love, and that Ghanaians must show such attitude to their neighbours.
He said as the nation prepares for the 2020 general elections, it is important for politicians and Ghanaians in general to eschew vices such as hate speech, ethnocentric statements aim at dividing the nation and insults.
Rt. Rev Prof. Mante indicated that hate speech, ethnocentric statements and insults.and other deviant practices were eating deep into the successes of the country.
The Moderator also urged Ghanaians to cultivate the spirit of love for peace, harmonious living, national tolerance and sustainable development.
He explained that it was only when Ghanaians longed and desired for peace that they would respect each other's views and work together for the wellbeing of all the citizenry.
The Rt. Rev. Prof. Mante advised the congregation to see the dedication of the ‘magnificent edifice’ as a period to reach out to people who did not know Jesus Christ and prepare them for His second coming.
Dedicating the building which was attended by a number of personalities, Ministers of the Gospel and worshippers from the Congregations in and around Adweso District of the Church, the Moderator stressed the need for church members to be properly accommodated in a serene atmosphere.
The construction of the building was fully funded by Nana Adjei Twene I Chief Executive Officer of the Mac-Dic Royal Plaza Hotel Limited in Koforidua and his family.
The Moderator commended Nana Adjei Twene and his family for their commitment and dedication to the Church over the years more especially for putting up the building for worship.
The Moderator called on the leadership of the congregation to maintain the structure. He said, failure to have regular maintenance would derail all the toil and sweat of the donors.
Nana Adjei Twene I in a speech said the building was a donation from the family to support God’s work in the area. He said he was touched by the spirit of the Lord to support His work.
The Moderator was accompanied by the Akuapem Presbytery Chairperson of the Church, Rev Ismael Dometey Asare, Rev Raymond Baah Abeka, Adweso District Minister and Mr. Robert Adu Mante, Akuapem Presbytery Ray Representative on the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.
