Dr Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, the National Chief Imam, said his office was established on the principle of Islam for service and humanity and not to be exploited for personal gains by family nor Muslim subordinates.

He said it was unacceptable for his office to be used or associated with any nefarious activity that put his integrity into disrepute.

"I am nearing my end and so I want to set or bring to order everything about me. So many things have been done wrongfully in my name and that is unacceptable, there should be sanity with my name," he said.

Dr Sheikh Sharubutu said this at a press conference in Accra to clarify that the purported land in dispute, involving his name at Ablekuma in the Ga Central Municipality, did not belong to him.

"I do not have any land at Ablekuma earmarked for any school project," he said.

He said the principles on which his office was established was for him to work as the leader of the Muslim community in Ghana and that: "If somebody wants to do anything on his own, he should do it outside without mentioning my name or office."

He called on the media to cross-check information involving his name and seek clarification either from him directly or through his advisory board for authentication.

"If anybody brings to you any information, seek clarification for authentication, do not send out wrong information that will affect people negatively. I encourage the media and my well-wishers to always double-check to authenticate every information involving my name," the Chief Imam said.
