Ghc 100,000 Filing Fee "Too Much" In An ‘Unfriendly Economy’ This COVID-19 Era - Ind. Presidential Candidate

Independent Presidential candidate Jacob Osei Yeboah popularly known as ‘JOY 2016’ may not contest the presidential position again after EC’s announcement of a whopping GHS100, 000 filing fee.

To him, the amount is “too much” in an ‘unfriendly economy’ during this COVID-19 era.

“I was very surprised when I heard the amount from the EC. The amount is too much in the corona year. Things are not going as expected not only in Ghana but in the world. So the EC should have considered all these before the increment of the fee,” he said in an interview with NEAT FM’s morning show 'Ghana Montie'.

According to the Electoral Management Body, anybody who wants to be on the Electoral Commission’s ballot paper as a Presidential Candidate in the December 7 polls will have to pay GHc 100, 000 as the filing fee subject to refund after getting 25% of valid votes cast.

Also, parliamentary aspirants are to pay GHc 10, 000 as filing fee.

The fees are to be paid by banker’s draft and all must file their nominations between Monday, 5 October, and Friday, 9 October, 2020.
