Six Killed In Accident On Accra - Cape Coast Highway

Six persons have been confirmed dead in a gory accident which occurred last Tuesday evening on the Cape Coast-Accra highway.

The accident which occurred around 8 pm involved a Toyota Hiace commercial car with registration number GR 5059-20 which was heading from Kasoa towards Cape Coast with 16 passengers onboard and a Ford Transit bus with registration number GS 6031-20 which was carrying seven passengers.
 
Three of the passengers died on the spot while three others died at the St Luke Catholic Hospital at Apam.

The deceased included two males and four females who were on board both vehicles.

Wrongful overtaking

Confirming the incident to Graphic Online on Wednesday, September 16, 2020, the Apam District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Mr Moses Osakonor said that the driver of the Ford Transit did a wrongful overtaking upon reaching the Gomoa Adam junction stretch of the road which resulted in a head-on collision.

He noted that as a result both vehicles veered off their lanes and landed in the nearby bush.

He noted that the Police received a district call and together with the personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) moved to the scene to rescue those trapped and transport the injured to the hospital.

He added that 18 passengers including drivers of both vehicles, who sustained varying degrees of injuries, were receiving treatment at the St Luke Catholic Hospital while the bodies of the deceased had been deposited at the same facility for autopsy.
