Sunyani West constituency which was created in 2008 has a total land area of about 1658.7 square kilometers and it's located in the newly created Bono Region.

Sunyani West is considered a stronghold for the NPP as it records a massive number of votes both presidential and parliamentary in the past 6 elections: 1996 - 2016.

The incumbent Member of Parliament, Ignatius Baffour Awuah has been on the seat since 2008 and he's seeking reelection. His main contender in the December 7 election is Millicent Yeboah Amankwah of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
