Ayawaso Central constituency is located in the Greater Accra Region and it’s considered as a stronghold for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to 1996 to 2016 election data, the NPP maintains dominance in both presidential and parliamentary elections.

Even though this constituency is regarded as a safe seat for the NPP, the margin of victory especially between the Parliamentary candidates is small.

For instance, in 2016, the NPP parliamentary candidate; Henry Quartey scored 55 percent and his NDC counterpart; Ani-Agyei William Afful scored 44.3.

The incumbent MP, Henry Quartey who has been on the seat since 2012 is seeking re-election.
