International model Victoria Michaels has joined the fight against Covid-19 by distributing face masks to some one million rural folks across Ghana.

This is under the ‘one million face masks for rural communities project’ by her Fashion Connect Africa Limited to help stem the spread of Covid-19.

The project was launched at the Marriott Hotel in Accra on Wednesday amid calls on Ghanaians to continue to observe the Covid-19 safety protocols because the virus is not entirely gone.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Victoria Michaels indicated that the project was born out of a strong desire to provide safety cover for the less privileged and underserved people in some rural communities from the deadly coronavirus.

“I have personally been to some of these communities with my team in the last few months and I must say it is time for both collective and proactive action to help them,” she recounted and commended government for its awareness programme to combat Covid-19.

The Deputy Minister for Education in charge of Technical & Vocational Education Training, Gifty Twum Ampofo, in an address, congratulated Victoria and her Fashion Connect Africa team for taking up such an initiative, emphasizing the role of technical training in sewing the face masks.

The ceremony was attended by Ayesha Bedwei, President of American Chamber of Commerce, Her Excellency Ms. Diana Acconcia,

Ambassador of European Union of Ghana and other high-profile personalities, some of whom spoke at the event.

Among celebrities who graced the ceremony were Martha Ankomah, Elikem Kumordzi, Nana Ama McBrown, KOD and a host of others. There were also performances by Kwan Pa and songstress Yaa Yaa.

The face masks were unveiled on stage and some were subsequently presented to Madam Twum Ampofo to distribute to her Abuakwa North constituents.

Victoria’s Fashion Connect Africa is an emerging social enterprise established to change lives in the creative industry. The project is aimed at protecting educating and empowering individuals and families living in rural communities by the wearing of face masks and practising safety measures such as washing of the hands and application of hand sanitizers.
