The Member of Parliament for the Agona West Constituency, who doubles as the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon Cynthia Mamle Morrison, has floored the NDC and its agents in court on the suit they filed challenging her status as a registered voter in the constituency. The court, in its ruling on Tuesday, September 29, 2020, threw out the NDC’s suit against the Gender Minister for being frivolous and lacking merit.

Hon Cynthia Morrison has, over the years, established herself as the biggest threat to the NDC’s electoral fortunes in Agona West Constituency. She has beaten them in all the parliamentary elections she contested in the constituency, and indeed, in the 2016 elections, she beat her NDC opponent by a difference of more than 11,000 votes, which is the biggest humiliating defeat suffered by the party in the constituency.

It is against this backdrop that the NDC has committed itself to investing all its time and energy in running down the MP including leveling ridiculous accusations against her claiming she is an “alien”. It was this same vicious agenda that motivated the party to sponsor a court action, through their [NDC] Branch Chairman at Wayaase, Mr Eric Yankey, on claims that Hon Cynthia Morrison does not live nor ordinarily reside in the Electoral Area she had gone to register as a voter. Of course, the court ruled otherwise and affirmed the MP’s legitimacy as a duly registered voter in the constituency.

The NDC has consistently embarked on this hate-for-vote campaign against Hon Cynthia Morrison yet the discerning electorates of the Agona West constituency ignore their propaganda and continue to repose their confidence in her.

Hon Cynthia Morrison’s tenure as the Member for Parliament for Agona West and Minister of State has witnessed many developmental projects in all facets including education, roads, security, social support and health infrastructure in the constituency. It is thus not surprising that she is loved by her people and the NDC cannot take that away from her.

Meanwhile, the Agona West Constituency campaign team of the NPP, on 30th September, 2020, held a Press Conference, where they exposed the NDC’s mischief and urged them to put a STOP particularly to their tribal campaign against the Member of Parliament because they [the NPP Agona West Constituency Campaign Team] will tolerate no such thing any longer.
