Mahama Has Never Understood The Free SHS Policy - John Boadu

General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu says former President John Dramani Mahama has never understood the concept of the free Senior High School (SHS) policy implemented by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

According to him, the position of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) on the Free SHS Policy from 2008, 2012 and 2016 that the then NPP-led Presidential Candidate Nana Akufo-Addo was campaigning on has been that it was not implementable.

In an interview on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show with host Kwame Nkrumah 'Tikese', the NPP Chief Scribe posited that the position of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on the Free SHS Policy was that it was not achievable until schools in the whole country have been built to accommodate the students.

“Mahama has never understood the Free SHS Policy. When we were campaigning on the policy in 2008, 2012, and 2016, the position of the NDC was that we cannot implement the Free SHS Policy . . . but when we came to power, we were not going to wait to build all the schools in the country before we implement the policy,” he stated.

He stressed that the demand of the NDC to have all the schools in the country built before implementing the Free SHS Policy would have denied a lot of students who were enrolled into the second cycle institutions upon the implementation of the policy.

He noted that the introduction of the Free Senior High School Policy is worth its investment as the challenge of the country was that close to 150,000 of the youth could not further their education to the secondary level as they were ending in the Junior High Schools.

“So, the investment is worth it and it has been successful, wherever you go; Free Senior High School is a flagship for everyone. The NDC is now saying that they wanted to do it,” he indicated.
