Chairman Wontumi Suspends Campaign Activities In Ashanti Region Over Rawlings' Death

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi,  has directed the suspension of all campaign activities in the region in honour of the demise of Former President Jerry John Rawlings.
 
Chairman Wontumi says he has called on all party executives in the various constituencies in the region to cease all forms of campaigning in order to mourn the unfortunate death of the country's political icon.
 
The news of the death of the Former President hit the country today, leaving many Ghanaians in shock and sadness.
 
The cause of his death is yet to be established.
 
Tributes have already started pouring in as the country begins to mourn one of the longest-serving political leaders in history. 
  
"We have received the death of Rawlings with shock and sadness; our former President did a lot and mentored lots of people in the country.  His death is a heavy blow to us," he said.
 
The Ashanti Regional Chairman, therefore, charged supporters of the party to observe the order in honour of the late former President.
