3rd Phase Of Markets Disinfection Open In Accra

THE THIRD phase of the ongoing nationwide market disinfection has been kick start in Accra.

The exercise is aimed at controlling the spread of the Covid-19 virus and other related diseases in the country.

The exercise which begun at the early hours of Thursday morning at Nii Boiman Market near Lapaz in the Okaikoi North Constituency in the Greater Accra Region saw all markets, shops and other public places disinfected.

The various markets disinfected includes, Akwetema, Nii Boiman, Achimota, Abeka, Kissiman Terminal and Abbossey Okai.

This was done by the initiative of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development Ministry with support from Zoomlion sanitation officers.

Speaking to the media, Ms Ruth Oppong, an Executive member of the Nii Boiman Market Association thanked the government for embarking on the third phase of the market disinfection exercise.

She called on all markets queens and women across the various markets in the country to avail their premises for the exercise.

"It is for our good and welfare that such initiative is being carried out," she stated.

On her part, an executive member of the Achimota Market, Mrs Charity Maku Dorning appeals to the various market women to respect the laws by closing their shops to make way for the disinfection exercise.

Mrs Dorning commended the government in extension the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources and the effort of Zoomlion for executing such a job.

We welcome the idea of disinfecting the markets any time any day because it will fight the spread of Covid-19 and also improve the insanitory condition in the various markets across the country.

In all, the workers of Zoomlion demonstrated high level of professionalism in executing the job in such a short note.
