Business Contractor Petitions IGP

A Business Contractor, Mr John Narh Nartey has petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP) over an alleged constant harassment by some police officers- Emmanuel Gbeku and Cecilia Anku in Prampram.

To the Abia Community (Prampram) opinion leader, one of the alleged constant attacks by Gbeku, Chief Inspector of Devtraco Police Station resulted in the setting ablaze of two motor bikes belonging to his employees, when he (Nartey) assigned his workers to work on his parcel of land at Tsopoli.

He said that stirred him to inform the Prampram District Commander to inform the patrol team for a rescue mission.

" . . I am told when the wounded persons were sent to the police station, the tugs pursued them, and in front of the Tsopoli Police Station, these thugs started firing their weapons in the air in the full glare of onlookers," said the MD of Joe Nartey Company Limited.

He added, "My workers sustained severe wounds, they reported the matter and medical forms were handed them but nothing has been done about it till date."

Notwithstanding Chief Inspector Gbeku's alleged lackadaisical approach to the case, the businessman said in an interview that, "he keeps calling and harasses me. He insists that a weapon was found at the scene of the crime and that the said weapon belongs to me. He is trying to entangle me with a crime l have no slight idea of when it was committed.

"Thankfully, it has emerged from the corridors of the Tsopoli Police that the said gun does not belong to me as stated earlier, but the thugs who attacked my workers.

"I am of the opinion that since the leaders of the thugs that attacked my workers are alleged friends of the Chief Inspector, he may not be objective in handling the case professionally. My humble plea is that the case should be reassigned to a neutral officer for the purposes of fairness."

In like manner, Cecilia Anku has on constant basis allegedly schemed in a deliberate attempt to discredit him (Nartey) and to stifle his work that employs about 130 workers.

The 41-year-old Real Estate and Property Rental boss has questioned why the two peace officers have allegedly been associated with almost all nefarious activities in the area.

He said all the parcels of lands he works on were legally acquired from the Chiefs and family heads of the area.

Attempts to reach the officers to comment on the matter proved unsuccessful.
