Rawlings Was My Hero – Ernest Owusu Bempah

Head, Corporate Communications Ghana Gas, Ernest Owusu Bempah has expressed shock at the demise of the late former President of Ghana, Jerry John Rawlings.

According to him, he did not expect the former President to die suddenly because he was still very energetic and strong.

“It is still very shocking and I didn’t believe it until I walked to his office and saw that everything is just normal because that is where we normally meet and I realized that he is not there anymore,” he said.

Speaking on UTV’s 'Adekye Nsroma' programme, Ernest Owusu Bempah said, “It’s been a sad moment and sad situation; somebody who is my hero, somebody that young politicians can look up to, somebody you can call up to him any minute any day to discuss whatever that is happening in your life and even give you guidelines . . . In fact, Ghana has lost a great man”.

He also recounted some beautiful moments with the late President.

“You won’t get such a great leader like him who will give you inspiration any time that you need him. In terms of politics, he was somebody that was closer to me. He is a very interesting and nice character and I am privileged to have had the opportunity to share that moment with him to the extent of him adopting me as his son,” he stated.

Rawlings died on Thursday at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital after a short illness.

He died at the age of 73.
