'NPP Must Claim Bagbin!' - Kabila Tells Majority In Parliament

Former Acting General Secretary of the Convention People's Party (CPP), James Kwabena Bomfeh has charged the Majority NPP in Parliament not to feel lost out on the election of the new Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin.

According to him, although Rt. Hon. Bagbin is an NDC member, his election as Speaker wouldn't have been possible without the involvement of the NPP MPs.

There was some misunderstanding over who becomes the next Speaker of Parliament in the second term of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The former Speaker Mike Oquaye and former Second Deputy Speaker, Alban Bagbin were suggested for election but some people believed Hon. Mike Oquaye was too feeble to be re-elected.

However, Hon. Alban Bagbin wasn't also a plausible choice for the NPP, hence it was a fierce election between the Minority and Majority.

At the end of the day, Hon. Bagbin was elected and named the Speaker of Parliament but not without opposition as Tema West MP, Carlos Ahenkorah demonstrated his dislike by attempting to whisk away with some ballots.

Speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" programme, James Kwabena Bomfeh, popularly called Kabila asked the NPP in Parliament not to be dismayed by the election of Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin but rather claim him because it wouldn't have been possible for him to become Speaker without their help.

"It baffles me that they feel lost out or they lost something. The true analysis of the situation there is if some NPP members on the side of Parliament hadn’t voted, Bagbin could never have been Speaker. They must claim him. NPP must claim Bagbin!''

He also allayed the fears of the NPP that Rt. Hon. Bagbin would be biased towards them.

"Fortunately, he is a person we know to be fair-minded. He is not rigid rabid person like some of the NDC people to say he will always side with the NDC," he stated.
