No COVID-19 Test For School Children; It's Not Worth It! - GHS Director-General

Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye says there will be no COVID-19 testing for the children going back to school.

Kindergarten, Primary, Junior High Schools and Senior High Schools will all reopen this year.

Children in Kindergarten and Primary schools will first reopen this Friday, January 15.

As the school children are going back to their various schools following a long period of stay in the house due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there are calls for testing all of them to ensure none contracts the disease.

During a panel discussion on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" programme, the GHS Director-General was asked about plans to test the children but he says it is not worth it.

He explained; "When you check the positive cases in Ghana, it is not worth it to do such test. So far, when you take those in the age bracket like from 0 to 18 years who have tested positive, it’s under 5 percent. So, it isn’t necessary to do the test but rather put measures in place to ensure that we isolate any person who shows signs of the disease just as we did during the reopening of the JHS and SHS."
