Election Petition: NPP Should Be Patient; We're Now Going To Unfold The Real Issue - Baba Jamal Assures

Deputy Director of Legal Affairs for the largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Baba Jamal has indicated the readiness of the petitioner of the 2020 election petition to prove to Ghanaians the mistakes of the Electoral Commission Chairperson, Jean Mensa.

In a response to a statement made by the Information Minister-designate, Hon Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the former NDC MP for Akwatia Constituency said that the case is not over for anyone to conclude that the petitioner, former President Mahama has not been able to prove that no one got 50 percent of the Presidential Election.

Information Minister-designate, Hon Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has stated that the petitioner in the ongoing election petition hearing, Mr. John Dramani Mahama should have demonstrated in court by now that no candidate in last year’s election had 50 percent.

In a tweet, the Ofoase-Ayirebi MP said, “The Petitioner has called 2 out of 5 advertised witnesses. The expectation is that they would have proven by now that no one got 50%. That hasn’t happened yet.

“On Friday we shall hopefully be back in court to hear the Petitioner attempt to establish proof to back his case,” he tweeted.

But reacting to the tweet of the Information Minister-designate, the former Deputy Eastern Regional Minister on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show insisted that the Petitioner has not finished his case in court to even allow the respondents to open defence.

He wondered why the Spokesperson for the 2nd Respondent who is also a lawyer is talking about proof when the case is not yet over.

“We are not yet done with our case and you are saying you have not seen anything. What do you want to see now when we have not finished with our case? As for the case, we are now going to unfold the real issue we sent to the Supreme Court and so the NPP should be patient," he said.

He added that the petitioner’s second witness, Dr. Michael Kpessah-Whyte has proven to Ghanaians with his statement what actually happened in the strong room; stressing that the witness statement from Robert Joseph Mettle Nunoo will lead to something that will further convince the Supreme Court and Ghanaians about the genuine case of the Petitioner.
