COVID-19: Ghana Must Go On Lockdown If . . . - Prof. Joseph Osafo

Head of Psychology at the University of Ghana, Professor Joseph Osafo has called for a lockdown in Ghana should the nation's Coronavirus cases keep soaring.

Ghana’s active cases have shot up to 6,352 after 722 new Covid-19 cases, updates by the Ghana Health Service (GHS) revealed.

As of 3rd February 2021, 63,959 patients have recovered/discharged but unfortunately a total of 457 people have been pronounced dead.

The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in both his 22nd and 23rd nation addresses on the pandemic disease, warned Ghanaians to stop flouting the safety protocols.

He has charged the security forces to enforce the laws ensuring every Ghanaian complies with the protocols to curb the disease.

He also warned of a possible lockdown should the citizenry continue to be recalcitrant.

Contributing to a panel discussion on Peace FM's ''Kokrokoo'', Prof. Joseph Osafo was alarmed by the increasing numbers contracting the disease and also warned the populace against disregarding the protocols.

He cautioned them of the negative impact of the disease and called for strict adherence to the protocols to save lives.

To him, should Ghana keep recording higher cases, the only option is to go on a lockdown.

"If the worst continues to linger, lockdown must happen . . . If people will continue to flout the rules . . . should this go on for the next six weeks, we will have a problem but we shouldn't look on for it to happen. So, if the worst lingers, then we have to consider a lockdown," he stressed.
