The Supreme Court has cited reasons for why it decided to hear the election petition by former President John Dramani Mahama challenging the 2020 Presidential elections.

It could be recalled the 2nd Respondent, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo filed a statement requesting the court to quash the election petition but the Supreme Court went ahead to hear the petition.

The Supreme Court today, March 4 2021 delivered a final verdict on the election.

Reading the court judgement, Chief Justice, His Lordship Justice Anin Yeboah set the grounds for the election hearing.

According to him, the court decided to hear the petition because there was merit in the case, therefore it was necessary to give the petitioner the opportunity to prove his case.

The Chief Justice noted that the petitioner's case was not frivolous but rather lacked substance in court.

He further indicated that the burden of proof lied on the petitioner to prove that the 2020 Presidential election results were flawed.

The petitioner's case has been dismissed by the Supreme Court Justices.

"The petitioner did not demonstrate how the alleged errors affected the validity of the declaration on the 9th. The petitioner has not produced any evidence . . . we have therefore no reason to order a re-run we accordingly dismiss the petition," the final ruling indicated.
