New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Akuapem North Constituency in the Eastern Region, Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah Adjei says it’s time for Ghana to focus on its developments after the Supreme Court’s verdict on the election petition.
 
She called for all to work towards the development of the country for the well-being of the people.
 
Her plea comes after the Supreme Court on Thursday, 4th March 2021 upheld the results of last year’s presidential election, saying the petitioner failed to prove that the winner did not cross the constitutionally required threshold of more than 50 per cent of the valid votes cast.
 
The ruling means President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will continue in office as President until his second term is over.
 
Nana Akufo-Addo polled 51.3 per cent of the valid votes, according to figures from the Electoral Commission while the petitioner, who was the 2020 flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr John Mahama, polled 47 per cent.
 
Delivering the judgment, Chief Justice Anin Yeboah concluded that; “we accordingly dismiss the Petition as having no merit."
 
But the leadership of the largest opposition party, NDC says they do not agree with the rulings and procedure of the petition.
 
Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah Adjei however, took to social media to call for unity.
 
The immediate past Deputy Information Minister in a Facebook post reiterated the need to maintain Ghana as the “gateway to Africa” – despite individuals’ political affiliations.  
 
“The petition is over, it is time to focus on Ghana and our collective development. An all-inclusive Ghana, geared towards national development.”
 
“The Ghana project, where all hands are on deck. A Ghana that will continue to champion the well-being of the people. A Ghana, which is the Gateway to Africa,” she advised.
