#FixtheCountry: Ghana Won't Come To A Standstill; Why Stop The Protesters? - Nana Ofori Blasts Police

National Chairman of the Progressive People's Party (PPP), Nana Ofori Owusu has blasted the Police for preventing the #fixthecountry conveners from embarking on demonstration.

The conveners planned to go on protest march on Sunday, May 9, 2021 but the Police stopped them.

An Accra High Court restrained the conveners following an affidavit filed by the Police against the conveners.

According to the court writ, the conveners, their associates and all parties interested in taking the protest march are "prohibited from embarking on any demonstration on Sunday, 9th May, 2021 or any other date until the restriction on public gathering is lifted by the appropriate authority".

On Sunday, social media was inundated with pictures of the Police parking their water tanks in front of the Independence Square in readiness to confront any person who attempts to flout their order.

Discussing the protest on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo', Nana Ofori Owusu questioned the Police's decision to disallow the protesters from going on their demonstration.

He asked whether the protest would have brought Ghana to a standstill.

He also noted that the decision by the Police has fueled the protest further because now the #fixthecountry protesters are going to gain a large following.

"Someone says he/she wants to embark on demonstration on 'Fix the Country'; allow the person to go on their demonstration. It's not going to bring Ghana to a standstill. The more you deny the right for the people to go on their demonstration, the more they're building up followers and supporters. It builds the followers and supporters and then 'Fix the Country' movement will grow. It will expand! Because water must find its way," he stated.
