It Was Needless To Storm Citi FM/TV Premises - Kwamena Duncan Blasts National Security Operatives

Former Central Regional Minister, Kwamena Duncan, has condemned the invasion of Police officers at Accra-based media house, Citi FM/Citi TV, on Tuesday, May 11, 2021.

The Police Officers arrested Caleb Kudah, a broadcast Journalist with Citi FM and Citi TV.

According to the Police, he was arrested for filming at the premises of the National Security Ministry, a restricted security zone.

About seven heavily armed officers stormed the premises of Citi FM/TV to arrest another broadcast Journalist named Zoe Abu-Baidoo who works with the media house.

They claimed Zoe Abu-Baidoo had received some files from Caleb Kudah.

The two were accompanied by the Citi FM/TV management to the Ministry of National Security for interrogation but Caleb was detained for several hours while Zoe was released.

Citi News’ Security Correspondent, Anass Seidu, narrated how the incident happened.

“Caleb Kudah who had visited someone at the National Security was arrested after filming at the premises of the Ministry. After he was arrested, the operatives detected that he had sent whatever he had filmed to another colleague, Zoe Abu-Baidoo. They moved to Citi FM with heavily armed men to arrest Zoe. When they got here, the management of Citi FM and Citi TV joined the team back to the National Security Ministry with Zoe. After some interrogation, Zoe was allowed to leave. Caleb Kudah was being interrogated at the time we left,” he said.

Touching on the arrest of the Journalists, Kwamena Duncan decried the Police's action saying it was distasteful for armed officers to have gone to Citi FM/TV premises to arrest a Journalist.

He cautioned against the rambo style by the National Security operatives stressing the situation should have been handled in a professional manner.

"We (National Security) could have handled it in a better way than we did . . . for them to have armed themselves just to go and invite a small unarmed lady journalist, invade the whole premises of a media house; it was unnecessary. It was needless. They could have done it in a better way than they did.

''Every agency, every department, every individual, government connected in anyway making any move; please let us stay on the path of the law. Let us stay on the path of what democracy requires of us. Let us stay on the path of what will not give the mince meat,"
he said on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' programme.
