Officials from the Liberia National Electoral Commission (NEC) are on a study tour of the Electoral Commission of Ghana. The aim is to help the Liberia Electoral Commission led by its chairperson to appreciate and adapt the biometric technology for its 2023 general elections. 

“The EC was happy to host a delegation from the Liberia National Electoral Commission (NEC) on a study tour of the Electoral Commission,” Ghana’s election management body posted on Facebook.

The two countries also explored the possibility of resource and technology sharing as part of their deliberations.
“The study tour aimed to establish the usefulness of the biometric system, the cost implications in setting up the process and to explore the possibility of resource and technology sharing between the two countries.”

Last year, Ghana’s former Electoral Commission chair Charlotte Osei, was in Liberia to lead the ECOWAS team of Information Technology experts to help clean-up the voters’ register of the West African nation.

Reports suggest the controversial voters’ register had derailed the confidence of the opposition community in the electoral system.

The ECOWAS Election and IT team was deployed following the request of President George Weah.
