Horror At The EUROS: As Erikson Collapses On Pitch

WARNING: IMAGES MAY BE DISTRESSING FOR SOME READERS: Inter Milan midfielder Christian Eriksen suddenly fell to the floor near the end of the first half during his side's opening Euro 2020 clash with Finland at the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen tonight. Eriksen - a former Tottenham player - was given CPR by frantic medics who sprinted onto the pitch while his sobbing teammates formed a protective barrier around him. The player was then carried off the pitch in a stretcher while receiving oxygen shortly after 6pm (left) - as medics held up white sheets to shield him from prying eyes. Pictures later showed Eriksen sitting up on the stretcher (top right) with his eyes open - as UEFA confirmed he 'has been stabilised' in hospital. Bottom right: Horrified fans watch on, while Eriksen's wife devastated Sabrina Kvist was comforted by his team-mates. The game, which was 0-0 when Eriksen collapsed, resumed 90 minutes later - a decision by governing body UEFA that staggered former players and supporters. Denmark lost the game 1-0.
