Ghana As 2nd Most Peaceful Country In Africa Is A Big Time Credit For Us - Nana Akomea

Chief Executive Officer of the State Transport Corporation (STC), Nana Akomea, has expressed delight over the survey indicating that Ghana is the second most peaceful country in Africa.

Ghana has been ranked the second most peaceful country in Africa in the 2021 Global Peace Index report by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP).

The IEP, which is an independent and non-profit think tank also indicated that Ghana is 38th in the world out of the 163 countries.

Addressing the issue during a panel discussion on Peace FM's ''Kokrokoo'', Nana Akomea said, "There is no doubt. Just look at West Africa, check our neighbouring countries, we all admit we're the most peaceful."

''There are 54 countries in Africa and so if we have the second position, to say that we cannot compare ourselves to dwarfs is not fair. There are 54 countries in Africa. It's not only Nigeria. Senegal is in Africa. Cote d'Ivoire is in Africa; Egypt is in Africa . . . The fact that, out of 54 countries, there is turmoil and there is no turmoil here is credit, very big credit. Out of 54 countries in Africa and we're second, it's big-time credit and that credit should encourage us, not demoralize us," he added.

Nana Akomea charged the Police to execute their duties of maintaining law and order effectively so as not to destroy this record.

"The Police should up their performance so that we don't slip to make sure these bullion van attacks; it doesn't turn into kidnapping . . . because we have a good record. It should give us the encouragment to work hard so we don't destroy that status but rather build upon it," he made this comment in relation to the current security issues in Ghana.
