Former Minister for National Security, Francis Poku has said it would be in the interest of ex-President Rawlings to cooperate with the security agency investigating President Mills' alleged GH�90m campaign money.
A confidant of the Rawlingses, Mr. Herbert Mensah early this month alleged that President Mills is planning to spend 90 million cedis on his re-election campaign and claimed he had evidence to this effect.
The president denied the allegation and asked security officials to investigate it. Mr Mensah was subsequently quizzed for several hours by the Bureau of National Investigations on May 16, in which he said the tape containing the evidence was with Mr Rawlings.
Meanwhile, National Security Advisor, Brigadier General Nunoo Mensah, has hinted ex-President Rawlings may be questioned. But Mr Francis Opoku who served under the erstwhile Kufuor administration, told Joy News it would be in Mr Rawlings� �own interest� to respond to any invitation to clarify issues.
He said the former president might have been �misinformed� and as a former head of state, his reputation would be at stake if the allegation goes without being clarified.
�I think he is quite a responsible person, and he knows that the security services are there to serve him. He was served by the security services when he was in power�he knows them; he knows they are people of integrity so he shouldn�t see it as a hostile act� The moment he views it as a hostile action then it doesn�t help [the investigations].�
