COVID-19: Ghanaians To Receive 2nd Dose of AstraZeneca By September - Dr. Asiedu Bekoe Discloses

Dr. Franklin Asiedu Bekoe, Public Health Director of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), has indicated that those who received a single dose of the AstraZeneca vaccines will soon be given their second dose.

Unlike the Johnson and Johnson vaccines which demand a single jab, two doses of the AstraZeneca are recommended to be fully effective against the Coronavirus.

About 1.3 million Ghanaians have been vaccinated with AstraZeneca, however, more than 300,000 people are yet to receive their second dose.

Speaking on Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo', Dr. Franklin Asiedu Bekoe revealed that those awaiting their second dose will receive it by September this year.

" . . hopefully, by September, those who received their first dose will be given their second dose . . . it's not allowed to combine Johnson and Johnson with AstraZeneca," he said.

Dr. Asiedu Bekoe further advised Ghanaians to continue adhering to the COVID-19 preventive protocols stressing, "wear the mask at all times . . . the fight against COVID is for all of us to make sure that we're COVID-free".
