The Akuapem Okere District Assembly is set to start a one year sanitation project in the district.

According to the DCE for the area, Daniel Kenneth Addo, the move will ensure sure the cleanliness of District and the country as a whole.

He said the Assembly is going to embark on serious and vigorous environmental education and campaigns on their sanitation by laws before the implementation.

The Assembly would also institute a "Name and Shame" project which will go a long way to identify the cleanest and dirtiest communities as well as Traditional areas in the Okere District.

Institutions, Religious bodies and government agencies are also not left out.

This is to make sure everybody is on board the project.

Their hope is that after the one year every corner or area in the district is clean.

They are also going to be serious with their markets, Public Toilets facilities.

They would use two months for the education and then follow with the implementation of their sanitation laws and by laws.

The DCE emphasized that, anyone or institution that would fall fault won't be spared and would be prosecuted. Since it's high time the district take their sanitation issues very serious.

The district seeks to be the Tourism Hub in the country due to its tourism potentials. Therefore this would also help to attract patrons and visitors into the district when the district is clean.

Also more trees would be planted to replace those areas that needs vegetations.

The DCE Kenneth Nana Addo Daniel, is therefore calling all on the chiefs, assembly members, Religious leaders and institutional heads, private sectors and opinion leaders to come on board. Since no one would be spared and would surcharged.

He made this disclosure when management of Ridge Next Hotels as part of its cooperate social responsibilities in collaboration with the Assembly begun the planting of trees to replace or cover areas that have lost its vegetation to help make their district as a tourist hub a reality.

After the tree planting exercise, the staff, the management of RNH, and the district's leadership paid a courtesy call on the Omanhene of Apirade Traditional Area.

Nana Saforo Okuampah III, in his welcoming address, expressed his total support for the eco-tourism initiative by Ridge Nest Hotel and has committed to releasing a parcel of land to the management for golfing. He said, this gesture is part of the traditional authority's drive to promote Apirade and Okere District tourism.

In all they planted close to 2700 trees with over 13 species. Speaking to Scofray Nana Yaw Yeboah, the consultant of Ridge Nest hotel, he said that, although new in Adukrom and the Akuapim ridge, it has purposefully earmarked about 22 locations, Asenema falls, Abonse slave market, Boti & Akaa Falls, Akonede shrine, etc. as the Hotel's dedicated tourist sites for their guest on vacation.

For this purpose, RNH is investing in a strategic tree planting exercise to conserve some of the 22 cited locations to promote eco-tourism.

He shared a heart-touch philosophy behind the eco-tourism drive; during the clearing of the land for the hotel project, a bird nest came out of a palm tree that had to be cleared.

It meant that a bird had lost its home because of the hotel construction, and as a hotel that prides itself as "home with nature."

So they decided to commit their CSR to afforestation to promote eco-tourism and, in wisdom, provide the bird and its kind to build a nest in the planted trees.

Again, it is to allow eco-tourist to identify various kinds of trees when they visit such locations that the afforestation exercise has been going on.
