The Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources on behalf of his boss, Samuel A. Jinapor has commissioned the Attatema Community Mining Scheme in the Amansie Central District in the Ashanti Region.
 
According to George Mireku Duker, “Government's focus in ensuring shared mineral wealth in mining catchment communities, we are committed to providing a sustainable and gainful employment to the teeming youth in the country.”
 
The commissioning was attended by Chiefs, Small-Scale Miners, and indigenes of Jacobu.
 
Speaking at the commissioning, George Mireku Duker said “I indicated the resolve of the Nana Akufo-Addo-led government to sanitize & regularize the small-scale mining sector out of which gave birth to the Community Mining Scheme as the surest alternative to illegal mining on and along with water bodies and in forest reserves.”
 
“In ensuring an effective sustainable small-scale mining regime, I urged the management to undertake reclamation concurrently with operations as mining advances.”
 
“On behalf of the government, I also donated two (2) modern processing equipment which is environmentally-friendly and mercury-free worth US$200,000.00. This forms part of the government’s grand agenda to ban the use of changfan machines and boost gold recovery in the small-scale mining architecture. The equipment popularly called the "Gold Catcher" has an estimated 95% recovery efficiency. “
 
The government through the Minerals Commission shall also provide technical support to the mine, in ensuring that, responsible and sustainable mining is undertaken.
 
“I strictly warned the management of the scheme that, the government will never tolerate any form of irresponsible mining and will not hesitate to close the site if any illegalities are reported.” He said
 
 
Adding that “I commend Hon. Emmanuel Akwasi Gyamfi, MP for Odotobri Constituency, Hon. Kwame Asamoah Boateng (DCE), Amansie Central, and Nananom for their support towards the establishment of the Mine and commitments made today to ensure responsible mining at the site. “
 
Mr. Martin Ayisi, CEO, Minerals Commission, Mr. Ben Aryee, advisor on Mines to Minister, Mr. Richard Kofi Adjei, Chief Inspector of Mines, and other officials accompanied the deputy minister for the commissioning.
