Krachi Youth Association Kick Against Akufo-Addo’s 'Alien' MCE Nominee For Krachi West Municipal Assembly

Non political pressure group, Krachi Youth Association in the Oti Region has expressed its displeasure and utmost rejection of Mr Emmanuel Jalulah, President Nana Akufo-Addo’s Municipal Chief Executive nominee for the Krachi West Municipal Assembly.

Drawing the attention of H.E. President Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Executives as well as the Vetting Committee, the Krachi Youth Association has stated in a press release copied to Peacefmonline.com that they feel disrespected by the NPP’s government continuous non-inclusion of their kinsmen in the governance of this country as landowners of the Krachi Traditional Area.

The Association as part of its displeasure of Akufo-Addo’s MCE nominee has stated that no native of Krachi has been appointed to any position in the government of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) except for the only glimmer of hope for the position of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) but the offer has been given to a “foreigner”.

“As we speak, no native of Krachi has been appointed to any position in the government of the NPP. The only glimmer of hope has been the position of the MCE, but this has also been offered to a ‘Foreigner’. We are not unaware of the numerous appointees Konkombas, the ethnic group of the nominee, Mr Jalulah in the government of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo”, the press release stated.

The association bemoaned the reason why the indigenes of Krachi are being treated unfairly as President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo promised to endorse the choice of the chiefs and the traditional area; thus, the nominee, Mr Jalulah has not been the choice of the chiefs and the people of Krachi

“Did not our paramount chief hold several discussions with the Minister of Local Government and Decentralization, Honorable Dan Botwe about his choice? We have still not been able to come to terms with why the President failed to appoint our own native as MCE as he did for all other MMDAs”, the press release stated.

“Four out of the five who were vetted were Krachi tribesmen who were more qualified politically for the position. One of the leading contestants was a constituency executive who had served the NPP for over two decades compared to Mr Jalulah who is barely NOT a frontline member of the party”, the press release indicated.

The Krachi Youth Association maintained its claims that Mr Jalulah does not in any way hail from or reside in the Krachi-West District, making it impossible for him to hold such a sensitive position especially when he does not know the Municipality let alone its development challenges.

According to the association, Krachi West District is not ready to work with a ‘political opportunity’ like Mr Julalah as the Municipal Chief Executive due to the fact that the President’s nominee switched campus from NDC in 2016 and stood independent in the Parliamentary election and later joined the NPP with the parochial interest.

“What is worrying is that, after the 2016 elections, he left the constituency immediately and never returned until a few weeks to the 2020 general elections to support the NPP parliamentary candidate, Hon. Justice Amankwah Mensah. All this while, he was still not resident in Krachi and never contributed in any way to the discourse and development of the Municipality.  Literally, Mr Jalulah is NOT known to the Krachi Traditional Council”, the association expressed.

The Krachi Youth Association reiterated that Mr Jalulah does not have any family in Krachi except that he came to the district as a former employee of World Vision; claiming that he was on a record to have preached sectarianism.

The press released added that the youth and the elders do not trust Mr Jalulah because of his ethnocentric agenda against the Krachi people; thus, the security of the municipality and the Krachi people cannot be guaranteed under his leadership as MCE.

“While we are still grappling with how the siting of the regional capital eluded us, the nomination of Emmanuel Jalulah against our wishes has opened wounds once again in the Krachi West Municipality. Why does this administration continue to disrespect our Paramount Chief with promises of nominating a person of his choice but later on betrayed once again just as it happened with the siting of the regional capital when our Paramount Chief was slighted with the choice of Dambai instead of Kete-Krachi. As a peace-loving people, we the Youth and our elders have advised ourselves not to use violence means to register our rejection and dissatisfaction with the President’s nominee but to bring our concerns to the attention of H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo and the NPP national executives to as a matter of urgency withdraw Mr Emmanuel Jalula’s nomination as the Krachi-West Municipal Chief Executive”, the statement read.

“We believe that if the President fails to heed and withdraw his nominee, this will confirm that the NPP Government does not love the people of Krachi and that there is a deliberate attempt to undermine our sovereignty as a people and to bring disunity among us and for that matter, we shall advise ourselves. We also urge all the assembly members of the district to reject the nominee outright since he is not a resident of the district”, the association declared.
