Special Prosecutor invites Juaben MCE Nominee For Questioning

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has commenced investigations into allegations of corruption and vote buying in relation to the election to confirm the Municipal Chief Executive nominee of Juaben Municipality.

The Special Prosecutor has, thus, invited the president nominee Alex K. Sarfo-Kantanka for questioning on 9 November 2021. Mr Sarfo-Kantanka was arrested on Monday, 1 November 2021 for allegedly bribing assembly members to confirm him as MCE for the area.

The rejected MCE nominee was heard in an audio asking for a refund from the assembly members following monies he paid them to endorse his nomination.

The Juaben Municipal Assembly nominee, also known as Aluta was heard saying: “Everyone should get ready to give me a refund so I can go. Dorothy, give me my money. You should all give me a refund. Yeboah, give me my money.” The rejected nominee further continued that: “You don’t know me right? You guys said I’m not good. You have taken my money and you’re misbehaving. I’ll take my money.”

Meanwhile, a statement issued by the Police and signed by its Public Affairs Director, Alexander Kwaku Obeng on Tuesday, 2 November 2021 indicated that: “The arrest was in connection with a viral video of the nominee,” who was allegedly demanding a refund of the monies. The statement further continued that: “After the investigation, Caution Statement was taken,” and Mr Katanka was “granted bail.” The Police has since commenced investigations into the matter.

The Assembly Members in the Juaben Municipality rejected President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s nominee for MCE. The nominee was unable to secure two-thirds majority out of the votes cast to become the MCE.

Total votes garnered by him was 6 out of the 26 in the first round of voting.
