Road Safety Measures: "I'll Blame NPP And NDC" - Kamal-Deen Abdulai

A former National Nasara Coordinator of the NPP, Kamal-Deen Abdulai has called on political leaders in the country to join road sensitization programmes to raise awareness about road safety.

Kamal-Deen, speaking on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' programme, advised politicians, particularly members of the governing New Patriotic Party and National Democratic Congress, to instead of politicizing road accidents especially when a reckless driver is arrested and they intervene to free the driver rather be part of the education.

" . . of course I will blame NPP and NDC. I am NPP, of course, but I have to. I will blame NPP and NDC on this matter. We have decided that even when a woman experience miscarriage, it's politics...Every little thing, everything in this country, we do politics with it. And I think that, on these road matters, not until we come and arrive on a commonality for us all to discuss it till every Ghanaian understand that, no, when it comes to road safety issues; we should lay aside the politics," he cautioned.

He believed road accidents will significantly reduce if the politicians sensitize Ghanaians about the dangers in flouting the road safety rules.

" . . they should involve political parties. They shouldn't just use only drivers' Union, GPRTU and whatever. Yes, they are the critical stakeholders but involve the policy makers...Involve them and let them be part of the public education'', he urged the road sector authorities.

"Let's try to be transparent. Let's try to be honest and let's try to deal with the citizens as the way that the law prescribes," he added.
