Parliament's Gender Committee Chair Shows Readiness To Support Female Student Leaders

The Women’s Commission of the University Students' Association of Ghana (USAG) and female student leaders from member institutions were privileged to meet Hon. Francisca Oteng Mensah on Tuesday, 16th November, 2021.

This visit comes as part of a series of engagements outlined by the office of the Women’s Commissioner to have female student leaders from across the country interact with some inspiring women in various sectors ranging from politics, business, humanitarian services et. al. in an attempt to have them share in the experiences of these women and build their individual capacities in rendering the best of leadership possible.

We commended her for her service to the state as the youngest Member of Parliament in the history of the 4th Republic, former National Youth Authority Board chairman and currently the chairperson for the Gender and Children committee in parliament.

We drew her attention to the prevalence of sexual harassment, assault and violence on our campuses and the nonexistence of laws in Ghana on the subject matter as well as in our various institutions. We also informed her of our preparedness to support policies drawn to handle matters in that regard.

Hon Oteng Mensah assured us of the Gender committee’s readiness to liaise with female student leaders in all its endeavors channeled at championing the female agenda.

She went on to encourage us to take opportunities as and when they come and to work at remaining consistent in our efforts of being impactful.
